Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, part of the global Accor brand, has announced the opening of Fairmont The Breakers Long Beach following a major restoration project.
The historic California property, which originally debuted in the 1920s, welcomed a slew of famous faces during its initial run, including Elizabeth Taylor, Cary Grant, Babe Ruth and Clark Gable, among other Hollywood stars.
The rebooted hotel has reopened with 185 rooms and suites and also features a rooftop pool and terrace, an open-air rooftop lounge with 360-degree views of the Pacific, a two-story spa, wellness and fitness center, live jazz club, and 12,000+ square feet of indoor and outdoor function space.
The culinary program at Fairmont The Breakers Long Beach features five F&B venues, including the reopening of the famed Sky Room restaurant, a fine-dining restaurant now led by chef Maxwell Pfeiffer.
Additional restaurants at the resort include Italian restaurant Nettuno; Halo, the only rooftop bar in Long Beach; upscale jazz bar Alter Ego; and lobby bar La Sala.

There’s a good reason twinkling holiday lights and colorful displays make us feel good, according to mental health experts.
“It does create that neurological shift that can produce happiness,” Psychologist Deborah Serani, a senior professor at New York’s Adelphi University, told NBC’s “Today” show. “I think anything that takes us out of our normal habituation, the normal day in, day out ... signals our senses, and then our senses measure if it’s pleasing or not.”
Decorating for the holidays “will spike dopamine, a feel-good hormone,” she said. “For a lot of us, Christmas is a magical time, it’s a time of innocence. It’s a time of joy.”

Emmett Cook recorded four tries and junior Rand Santos added two tries and two conversions as the California rugby team rolled to a 101-7 victory over Long Beach State in a preseason XVs friendly Saturday afternoon at LBSU Rugby Field.
The Golden Bears got on the board promptly when sophomore Jack Byszio scored a try at the 1-minute mark and Santos followed with the conversion. Cal registered three tries during a seven-minute span later in the half and went on to lead 60-0 at halftime.
Byszio, junior Cade Crist and sophomore Bryan Bogne each had two tries apiece and 10 different Bears got on the scoreboard. Cal used 23 players overall in the contest.
Saturday marked the Bears' first 15-a-side action of the 2024-25 season after an undefeated run in sevens action this fall in which Cal claimed a pair of West Coast Collegiate 7s titles. Cal and LBSU met for the first time since 2021.
In a reserve-grade match, the Bears defeated the Sharks, 111-0.
Cal will return to the training field after the Thanksgiving break before shutting down for final exams. The Bears open play in January at UCLA's Dennis Storer Classic on Jan. 18-19.
